From Windows XP to Windows 7

Lots of advices and lots of suggestions. Don't know what to do. Well, I have Windows XP installed on my laptop. And honestly speaking, it runs fairly well on my laptop. Not even a single issue encountered from the day when I installed it for the first time. Undoubtedly, it is one of the best operating systems in my opinion. And I bet you all agree to it. Don't you?
It could have been a different story if I would have gone for a change. Say, if I would have gone for Windows Vista then I think it would have turned out to be a bad decision. Most of you must be knowing at least something about the Windows Vista. I think it was one of the hugely anticipated operating systems from the Microsoft. But in the end, it had nothing much to offer. Lots of reasons were cited for its failure. The major reasons being -
- Windows Vista was full of bugs which were difficult to trace.
- Windows Vista required powerful computers to run smoothly.
- Windows Vista had a lot of compatibility issues.
- Windows Vista was difficult to upgrade.
- Windows Vista performed poorly on the Laptops and often crashed or freezed in case it ran slowly on the system.
On the contrary, let me ask you one question - Do you face any such problems with Windws XP? I think you answer should be a big "NO" As I said earlier, it is a sheer pleasure to work on Windows XP. Leave those threats from viruses and other malicious piece of codes. That has been a major problem with all the Microsoft Operating Systems. An area that needs to be seriously worked upon. And I guess they have worked a lot on this issue in recent past. So, in any case there is no reason for me to switch over from Windows XP to Windows Vista.
But I can go for Windows 7. The seemingly long awaited much hyped Windows 7 has finally arrived in the market. And its arrival has certainly brought smiles on everyone's faces. Windows 7 is making news all over and all for good reasons. Here are some of the most important features of Windows 7, almost look alike of Windows Vista from what I know. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Please correct me if I am wrong.
- Windows 7 is fluid, non-intrusive, and elegant.
- Windows 7 is easy to use and has a modern sensibility.
- Windows 7 has a look and feel which is suggestive of touch-screen technology.
- Windows 7 is built to facilitate uses -- like playing with images and watching videos -- that came of age after XP was created.
- Windows 7 offers better security and is robust.
- Windows 7 boots fast and has a better navigation from a corporate network to home network. This has been made possible through "Tunneling Technology".
- Windows 7 offers much enhanced battery life for notebooks by extending it from 6-12 hours.
- Windows 7 makes watching videos and internet TV easily accessible. “With the premium version, one can pretty much do what mediacentre PCs did — sharing media, watching videos and effectively making a TV on the PC.

Well, these facts can surely make anyone think for the upgrade. Surely no harm with it as in my opinion, it would lead to much better performance from your system. To let you know more, Microsoft had set a target of having Windows 7 installed on over 100 PC models in India. In less than a month since its launch on October 22, over 2,000 Indian companies are in the process of installing Microsoft’s latest operating system (OS), Windows 7. The companies include major IT companies like Infosys, Wipro, NIIT, car companies like Maruti and even the Bangalore airport, and Manipal University, besides many small- and medium-sized businesses (SMBs), according to Steven Guggenheimer, Microsoft’s corporate vice-president, OEM.
So, that gives you another idea - how well things have been going on for Windows 7 and must say for the Microsoft. It indeed looks very promising. Sooner or later, I am also planning to upgrade my OS to Windows 7. Will it be a good idea then? Should I move from Windows XP to Windows 7 ? Have you people tried Windows 7 yet ? Did you like it ? Please have your say..

Two years ago when I was looking to buy a new laptop as I ventured back to school I was disappointed that all new pcs only offered Vista. My parents have no problem with it, but they rarely use their pc. My husband has it on his laptop and hates Vista. My daughter has it and has no issues. So, I did as so many commercials show ~ I bought a Mac. ;) I think Windows 7 looks good, but Microsoft should offer a discounted upgrade for all of its unhappy Vista users.

Hi Annie, it is my pleasure to see you here on this blog. Yes, Vista was successful to some extent. People still use it. Even I wanted to try it once but then I was doing fine with WinXp. Now, Windows 7 has arrived. Hopefully I will try this one for sure. Thanks so much for your precious comment:)

I am still on XP, luckily skipped right over Vista, as I've heard about the problems.
I have an old desktop computer we've reconditioned twice now. So I have no experience with Windows 7. But... I have heard those who have it are happy with it.

I am using vista and really forgot about XP since I have not been using it for a long time. One thing I do hate about Vista is loading time, it takes forever. Hopefully they have rectified this issue on Windows 7. Reading your post encourages me more to go and jump for it right away. Thanks bro for the heads up.

Hi Bro, nice to know that you have Windows Vista installed on your system. You can also try windows 7 for much better performance :)
November 22, 2009 2:10 PM
I'm a Windows XP user and it is perfect for me, a newbie, easy to use and not bothersome.
November 23, 2009 11:16 AM
Yes, its much better but then try upgrading to Windows 7, it is much better :)
November 23, 2009 5:25 PM
i'm having XP too now, no complain, gave up on Vista for consuming too much memory & cumbersome too, may have to wait a little while longer for win7 to stabilise, that's my view.
November 23, 2009 5:36 PM
Thanks bro..hope you are doing great. Yes, I am also waiting for it to be more stable and then I will have it on my system :)
November 24, 2009 12:20 PM
I am still using the old windows but I am trying to familiarize myself now with windows 7. Informative post Bro, especially with the kind of people like who is not really the tech geek type. :)
