The Google Page Rank Disaster
Friday, November 06, 2009
Posted by ASWANI
Well, it seems that Google is against my blog. First, I had to remove Google ads from my blog and now this Page Rank disaster. Both cases almost at the same time. The first case being the major concern but then I think I have spoken enough on the same. There's no point in speaking on the same topic again and again. Now, looking at the present case - The Page Rank disaster. From 4 to 3, truly shocking! I am saying so because I believe I didn't do anything silly to make this happen at any time in my blogging. Now, one thing is sure that this blog deserved Page Rank 4 and in other words, I would say it as a biggest reward for me in these 2 years of blogging. I was hopeful of maintaining the same and more hopeful of gaining much higher page rank. But then it was never to be. Contrary to it, the recent update has left me with some doubts in my mind.
Now, we all know that Google Page Rank is decided on the quantity and quality of the backlinks plus there are many other factors which are not as important as the linking factors. Going back to the moment when I got a PR 4 for this blog, it was almost proved that I was rewarded for my efforts in quality link building for this blog. Plus I believe I really worked hard on my blog's content making it sure that most of my posts are high quality and original. And honesty speaking, Page Rank 4 was the result of those efforts.
After I gained PR 4 for this blog, I was confident of maintaining it forever. But I think it was more of an over confidence from my side. The recent Page Rank update has given me the food for thought. I have lost my Page Rank from 4 to 3 for reasons unknown. Well, still there could be many reasons for the same -
Now, this is interesting. Change in the page rank mechanism. Who knows? Anything is possible today and Google being so innovative these days - Anything can happen.
Well, there can be many more reasons for the same which I may have forgotten to mention. To be honest, I am not so bothered about the Google PR at present. It happens at times. Bad luck it happened to me. I quickly need to forget about the Google PR. As long as you keep getting traffic on your blog from the search engines or from any other source, Page Rank shouldn't be a matter of concern for you. That is what I've learned in recent time. Believe me, Page Rank is nothing more than a showpiece but yes, one thing is very true - When you get a good one, you do not want to loose it any cost !

- Did I do too much of link building ?
- Did I exchange link with spammy sites?
- Did I exchange link with unrelated sites?
- Were my links removed from the sites with which I did link exchange?
- Has there been any change in the Page Rank mechanism?

yes i wanted to add something, this time google has reduced 1 point of every website, i myself checked 11 sites and found that everyone is reduced by one point, as yours is also reduced one and mine also.
I thought you can go deep into this and try and found out does my observation is right. 2nd observation is that very slowly in future google will stop the page rank, anyways i do not run behind the page rank. i like your article.i agree with you on everything.

Well Aswani, what can I say. I have lost that "toolbar" PR from 3 to 0 a long time ago and since, Mr G appears to have forgotten all about me. Curious about you saying that their "mechanism" has changed, because I have seen "horrible" blogs and new ones getting PRs with no apparent reason. Go figure. For what its worth, I agree with you that the issue of PR should not be a matter of great concern. Even Google said that recently when they removed the PR from webmasters tools. Sorry about your drop, but I'm sure that in no time it will go back up again..

Great post aswani, but got one question. How do you determine a spamming website?
Your last statement is very true... "It really sucks when you lost something good!" from PR2 to Nothing Waaaaah! >:o

Thanks SM for this info. But I am still surprised. Simply dropping page rank by 1 doesn't make any sense to me. There should be some strong reasons for it. As far as this blog is concerned, I have tried doing less link exchanges. And so, I cannot understand how..Yes, no use in running after the page rank. Better to keep doing my work :)

Bro..From PR 3 to PR 0, I really feel very sad to know about your blog. Must say - I am dumb-shocked. Your blog being a niche blog and with the kind of content you have, this is just unbelievable =-O. Seems that Mr. G has gone crazy. bty, I think we shouldn't worry much about the page rank. It is simply not in our control. Better to keep blogging and increase traffic by all means possible :)

Thanks Jhong for dropping by. Well, a very good question? I too have been facing lots of problems with it in recent past. But one thing which I've learned from all these is that we should exchange links only with related sites which is based on the niche of your site or blog. I think I may have failed here since this is not a niche blog. Unknowingly, I may have linked to spammy sites..don't know stillO:-)

yes aswin! what u said is 100% right , pr is no way useful for search engine optimization and I have learnt this out of my experience in blogging for 2 years. i have got page rank for my www.medicine2life.com : pr 2 , but i am not happy though since i know it true value. this is true because Mat cutts who is Google search in charge once mentioned in his personal blog about the degrading value of page rank. :-D
November 7, 2009 12:09 PM
Thanks Rajesh for your valuable comment. Yes, you too have a great blog and PR 2 is just too less. Hope you will have much higher page rank very soon. Keep up the good work :)
November 7, 2009 12:33 PM
I also lost my PR in last update as my blog was previously PR3 .But this time i got my PR3 back.
Try linking with websites with higher PR in your niche. I hope that you will get your PR back in the next update :) . As long as you have traffic, PR doesn't matter. Aswani, you have said the right thing that when we get a good PR we don't want to lose it as it is a showpiece . Cheers to you :).

Congrats dear !! Yes, instead of worrying over the lost PR, I think I should concentrate more on the content part and traffic which I believe is more important. Thanks again..buddy:)

Sad news aswani but on Google said we should not worry about pagerank we should focus on users experience and all else will follow the google pagerank mechanism was tweat about four hundred and fifty times in one year what does that tells us another thing is your web host can or might affect your pagerank look at most blogspot blogs

Thanks bro for your valuable feedback. I really like the way you have explained the whole thing. Thanks again :)

This is my first time on your blog, ended up here from Blog Engage.
First off let me say I wouldn't worry about my Page Rank so much, think about the things you enjoy about blogging and continue to focus your energy on that.
In so many cases when this occurs it's due to the neighborhoods that your blog is connected too and not so much what you did or did not do.

Wow..what a pleasant surprise=-O Thanks John for dropping by this blog. I've seen you as a regular commenter on DiTesco's blog. Yeah, I too agree to what you have said here. Thanks so mich for your views:)

Aswami,
Please don't worry about PR. Please see this article "Google Removes PageRank Data From Webmaster Tools" http://www.seroundtable.com/archives/020960.html
So even though you still see it on the toolbar it is a non issue.
Thanks for the post and I will vote for this post on blogengage.

Well, page rank is not much a concern anymore if you follow the 90 % who does concern, then you will be left behind, as a matter of fact, you should concentrate in communicating more in forum and social network, it does not increase you page rank but it does increase your targeted audience.
All those exchange link stuff, only get's you noticed in search engine, but nowadays more and more people are going into social network like twitter and facebook, you should start right now by joining groups of like-mined people in there. ;)

Well, I completely agree to whatever you have said here. Just to let you know - I am quite active on social networks but not much active on forums. Yes, getting in touch with like minded people may help a lot. bty, many thanks for the input. Hope to see you again:)

After I read some of the comments here from people who seem to be very much more aware about how page rank works .. I think there is no reason for you to worry... So relax and keep the good work going !! :)

November 10, 2009 9:12 AM
for my blogcebuworld.com, i used to have PR3 (last year), but G took 1 for a reason i don't know. Then after many updates, i still have PR2. i have to do lots of things to improve my rank, unless G changes it algorithm again.
November 10, 2009 10:14 AM
Yes Novz, carry on with your work..Sooner or later you will get it back again and hopefully much higher one :)
November 11, 2009 12:10 PM
Yeah don't worry about PageRank. PageRank is important for us bloggers but SERP is more important and traffic of course.
November 11, 2009 12:17 PM
Thanks buddy :)
November 11, 2009 4:27 PM
hi bro' just don't get stressed out, this page rank stuff is quite difficult to understand, mine's just got zerorised for no apparent reason, so i just let it be..... =-X
November 11, 2009 4:38 PM
Page ranking won't be a true factor which judges your website.I know some good sites that have low page rank and some low grade sites those have higher PR.Forget about PR and look for the content and matter written in the page.
November 11, 2009 4:40 PM
hahaha..don't worry. You will get it back one day. Keep up the nice writing on your blog..bro :)
November 11, 2009 10:48 PM
It is shocking to hear this. My site got PR improvement from PR0 to PR2 recently. May in next i will get penalised and come back to number 1 or o?
November 11, 2009 10:50 PM
