Blogging as a career option. Perhaps this is one of the very first things which we forsee when we decide to take up blogging. Well, many of us still take it as a hobby but somewhere along the way...a desire begins to build to give it a professional thought. It has happened to me and I am sure it happens with many of us.For more related articles: Subscribe to One Stop Blog |

Nicely written post!! One thing if a girls family asks that I'd say I'm an internet entrepreneur :) the impression would be great. Anyhow, I seriously feel that blogging has got great potential, still the majority of the world doesn't use the net, so imagine the growth.
Yes like every business a blog too as ups and downs, but we must face it, and I totally agree with you that blogging is not that easy as other businesses, but the advantages are also the same, you can set up a blog for free and you have the chance to work from the comfort of your home.
And I seriously disagree that blogging is made for those in the west only, because the only thing that matters is knowledge, skill and hard work which people from any country can put in.

Vishal...many thanks for your sensible feedback. Yeah, blogging is there to stay and grow like anything but to turn out it into a rewarding career...one has to work like anything then :)

Reading through your blog, I felt that as if I was listening to my sister ( sorry for that ). When I told her that I would be blogging and earning, she said what if it fails. I was running an e-business and it did not work at all the way I wanted. But am I less convinced about the internet, I am not. I am more convinced that we are sitting on a revolution, which right now, us Indians unfortunately don't understand.
Why do you care that much about earning ? I am a total newbie to the blogging and i don't know where I am going. But I am sure that I will learn new things in future and enhance my skills. Maybe I will open a store for people to shop with these new skills. May be I will become a celebrity author.
i don't think you should write only for Indian audience as you are correct that it will not be read that much. Write for international audience. The things that the world is hooked in.
It is a lot of work ( it is now taking 18 hrs per day) and my wife hates me. She compares the recent XYLYS ad to my work. "Its the laptop that possesses you' She says ;). I am not looking for my day in the sun at the moment, I am just enjoying the breeze.
You are welcome at my blog http://aks-blog.com

You have done it again Aswani you pick the right topic and lay it bare on the table blogging is here to stay but as a career choice may be for some my biggest concern about blogging and making money is that none of the so called top bloggers ever say how they made their money food for thoughts. A brilliant post.

Great post Aswani!. I agree with you when you say that blogging has need of a lot of time before to make an montly income. I took 4 year before to reach this result, and is still I'm working hard as when I started. The best thing is that you can work from your home and be free by your employer as well. ;)

Thanks a lot bro...yeah, they never disclose their secrets. Anyways, personally I have never thought of making it a full time career option. I will better keep it as a part time hobby and if I make any money in the process, it is a big plus for me ;)

Agreed bro...personal freedom...that is what blogging lets you enjoy the most :)

Very nice post Aswani and well written too. Topic is very hot as blogging is a upcoming career here in India. Some of your points like marriage one is really interesting.
Personally, my son was doing well in blogging before joining his Accenture job last year but I asked him to join normal 9 to 5 job as I thought that its difficult to explain guys around you that what your son is doing?
Blogging is here to stay is right but difference between East and West will be there as internet literacy rate of India is very less as compared to West.
Anyway thanks for your nice post.
:)

I don't totally agree with you. Blogging can be taken up as a full time career, and there are Indian who have proved that (Rahul Bansal from rtCamp, Harsh Agarwal from SML are a couple of examples.)
