On the face of it, this looks like a silly question to ask. When others lost their job, I seemed to somehow ignore the calamity. But when I lost mine, my world came crashing down. What will happen to my mortgage and insurance were the first dreaded questions which came to my mind. It’s not easy to deal with life after losing a job but if you can absorb the shock and move ahead, this misfortune can be turned into a beautiful life.
Attack is the best form of defense
Instead of moping around, you must instantly bounce back and that too aggressively. The first thing I did was approach my insurance agent. As a consequence I got rid of my almost new car (my beloved procession). Not only did I avoid paying my monthly loan installment but also on my insurance. This was a huge relief. As a bonus the insurance guys at
auto insurance web offered me a job- to promote their website. Incidentally their
learning center has some excellent info on auto insurance.
Getting rid of unwanted stuff
Over a period of time I had collected a lot of stuff which now seemed like junk. I was sure there was money in it. I advertised on various sites which sell used stuff, like eBay and Craig’s list. You won’t believe it, but I got terrific response. For rest of stuff I had a garage sale. It was pure fun and I made some money- not a lot but enough to boost my confidence.
Living within budget
Now this is the most important thing to do. You must cut down on all frills and flowers. Don’t care for what the neighbors would say. Don’t bother about relatives and friends. Just clamp down on expenses. Money saved is money earned. I shaved down my budget to almost half. I didn’t have to spend on gas since I had sold my car anyway. I started walking for my grocery and shopping. I lost some weight (I was always a bit on the heavier side) and for the first time in my life I felt nice and healthy. Looking for bargains is certainly not a bad idea. Instead of simply buying stuff you must look around for discounts. Make use of the discount coupons available online.
Be positive
Bad times don’t last for long. Losing my job was possibly a hidden boon. I started working online from home, promoting several local businesses. This gave me freedom which I could never have dreamt of if I were into a regular job. I can now pick and choose work which I really like instead of running around like a mad woman. I save a couple of hours commuting which is a blessing. I think, in hindsight, my positive mindset helped me discover a new life – a life which I never knew existed. The internet has thrown huge opportunities which we must utilize to better our lives. And guess what – while trolling on the net, I found a wonderful thing – my boyfriend.
