Ever since iPhone launched, it has been compared to all its contemporaries. Whether it’s iOS vs Android or iOS vs Windows. The latest one being OnePlus 6. This flagship phone launched by the Chinese smartphone manufacturer is giving a tough competition to the apple product. A decision that even the loyal iPhone users (including me) are torn to make is: Whether to buy the new iPhone or switch to OnePlus 6?
And I’m sure tons of users are facing the same dilemma!
So, let’s see what’s the deal with these 2 after all
How long does loyalty really go?
iPhone for over a decade has single-handedly ruled over people’s hearts and the smartphone market. A phone that’s not at all customizable like its Android counterparts. Then why the popularity, one might ask? One reason can be the price. You know how everyone refers to other mobile phones as just phones irrespective of whether it’s a Samsung, Sony or Nokia but Apple phones are always referred to as iPhones. Obviously if something were to happen to an iPhone it would be a tragedy solely because of the price bracket it comes in. For instance, I happen to have suffered an unfortunate incident back in college where my phone fell screen first and at the same time a friend’s Android phone suffered the same fate. Everyone including the professor asked if the iPhone was fine. And NO, it wasn’t! The screen broke. See where I am going with this? There’s just too much at stake when it comes to an iPhone. Way too much riding on it!
OnePlus 6 Vs iPhone X
How The Displays Stack Up
The iPhone X comes with a 5.8 inch (14.7 cm) multi-touch full-screen OLED display. The pixel resolution is 1125 by 2436 at 458 ppi. The OnePlus 6 on the other hand has a 6.28 inch (15.9 cm) Optic AMOLED display with a resolution of 1080 by 2280 pixels at 402 ppi. OnePlus 6 also offers more display customization compared to the iPhone X. The iPhone X is available in Silver and Space Grey variants while OnePlus 6 offers Mirror Black, Midnight Black, and Silk White choices.
Battle Of The Battery Life
The very thought of lugging around a power bank is exhausting. Most users would prefer a smartphone which offers longer battery life. iPhone X comes with a 2716 mAh Li-Ion battery while OnePlus 6 packs a 3300 mAh Li-Polymer battery. iPhone offers a wireless charging option apart from the regular charger. However, they don’t offer the charging pad; you’ll have to purchase it separately. OnePlus 6 reintroduces the ‘Dash Charge’ technology for rapid charging of the phone; the adapter is included in the box along with the phone.
Both the phones go from 0% to above 50% charge Within 30 minutes.
Camera Quality: Which Is The Selfie Juggernaut?
The camera quality is one the first things on a buyer’s mind.
Let’s start with the rear camera – Both the phones come with dual cameras in the rear. iPhone X comes with a 12 MP camera, 1.8 wide angle aperture and the secondary camera has a 2.4 telephoto aperture.
OnePlus 6 boasts a 16 MP rear camera with 1.7 aperture, its secondary camera is 20MP with 1.7 aperture again.
Talking about the front shooter – iPhone X has 7 MP camera with f/2.2 aperture while the OnePlus 6 sports a 16 MP front camera with f/2.0 aperture.
We have a clear winner here, don’t we?
Memory & Storage Space
iPhone X has 3GB RAM while OnePlus 6 provides 6GB and 8GB RAM variants. None of the phones provide expandable storage. While iPhone X comes with 64 GB and 265 GB of storage space, OnePlus provides 64 GB, 128 GB, and 256 GB options.
Audio Quality & Performance
iPhone X comes equipped with a bottom firing stereo speaker while OnePlus 6 provides bottom firing speaker. The next part is going to be a deciding factor for a lot of users. While OnePlus 6 has the usual 3.5mm earphone/headphone jack, iPhone has retained the decision of eliminating the jack. People can either go for airpods or use the custom-made earphones that go in the charging jack.
User Experience & Performance
While both phones may have a lot of similar features they run on very different operating systems. OnePlus 6 runs on Android 8.0 Oreo and iPhone X operates on iOS 11.1.1. OnePlus 6 offers customization to its users, but the simplicity iPhone provides is the reason why their users stick with the brand despite the price. The iPhone X comes with an Apple A11 Bionic
chipset and hexa-core 2.39 GHz (2x Monsoon + 4x Mistral) processor while the OnePlus is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 with Adreno 630 and an 2.8 GHz octa core Kryo 385.
While iPhone is still leaps and bounds ahead in terms of the loyal fanbase, OnePlus is steadily gaining a following especially with OnePlus 6.
Apart from these major features, there are a few more factors that should help you decide your buying intent:
- The iPhone X remains to be a single sim device while OnePlus 6 offers dual sim feature.
- iPhone X is water and dust resistant, while OnePlus 6 can only survive a light drizzle.
- Both devices come with face recognition software.
- While iPhone X has eliminated the fingerprint scanner, OnePlus 6 retains the safety feature.
- Both the phones have opted for a bezel-less display with the notch design which can be disabled for the ultimate full screen display.
- Last but definitely not the least, the price range.
I can go days at end comparing the specifications and it would still be a very close race but when it comes down to basics, price range is something that is the ultimate deciding factor. The iPhone X continues to be a part of the elite squad coming in at about 89K INR while the OnePlus 6 with the same features will cost you a reasonable 35K INR.
That brings us back to where we began – Will the iPhone X lose its spark with the introduction of OnePlus 6? Only time will tell. But for now, I want to go for a OnePlus 6, with brand loyalty nudging me towards the iPhone X. What about you? Which one would you go for?
