Join Google Local Guides & Unlock 100GB of Free Storage on Google Drive

Just checked my mailbox and came across this offer from Google. While I am not a regular user of Google Maps, I still thought that this offer news could be useful for those who have been using Google Maps actively and enjoy sharing their thoughts on places they travel in the form of photos and reviews. Even I enjoy reviewing places and clicking photos of the places I visit and the food I enjoy. But honestly, I haven’t been so active on Google Maps. Instead I have been sharing most of my clicks on social sites like Instagram and Facebook. Instagram is ideally the best preference for any user who enjoys sharing photos with the world. What say? Am I right?

Anyways, this offer is open to all the individuals using Google Maps services. You can become a Google Local Guide and gain points by making useful contributions on Google Maps to unlock 100GB of free storage on Google Drive. Cool…Isn’t it?

What is Google Local Guides?

Google Local Guides is an active community of people making useful contribution to Google Maps by sharing photos, answering local questions, adding or fixing places, posting reviews thus assisting people in deciding where to go and what to do. Local Guides is offered wherever Google Maps is available, currently in 40 countries and languages. The feature is open only to individuals and not businesses. To become a Local Guide, you must be atleast 18 years old.

Local Guides Points and Level System

Google Maps comes with points system which enables users to accumulate points and reach levels on the basis of contributions he or she makes on Google Maps. You can reach different levels depending upon the points you collect. A user collects one point for every place reviewed, photographed, added, edited, or provided additional information for on Google Maps. Upto 5 points can be collected per place. Below is a breakdown of points and levels a user can reach on Google Maps:

  • Level 1 = 0-4 points
  • Level 2 = 5-49 points
  • Level 3 = 50-199 points
  • Level 4 = 200-499 points
  • Level 5 = 500+ points

Points earned never expire but yes it can decrease on an account of reviews being removed for violating Google Maps Policies. Each of the above listed level you reach offers Google Guides benefits. You must keep contributing something useful on Google Maps to avail these benefits.

A common question often asked is what once my free storage offer expires or the validity period ends. Well, there’s nothing to worry as your files are safely stored even after the free storage offer ends. Once your free storage offer ends, you cannot add any additional file unless existing files are removed or any additional storage is purchased. Very simple!

Well, I am currently on the level 1 but after reading about the benefits offered at the higher levels, I am fascinated about Local Guides.
